Natural Dyeing Workshops at Maha Rose

Join me for an introduction to natural dyes for fabrics. In this three hour workshop, we will explore the rainbow of plant options available to color fabric in a non-toxic way, with respect to our bodies and our earth. Using a mix of locally foraged plants and imported extracts, we will learn how to prepare natural dyes and mordants (including a fructose based indigo vat), methods of tying and binding fabric, and some history of popular natural dye plants and their historical uses.
We will touch on the concept of Ayurvastra, the recently revived Indian tradition of using healing herbs to color fabrics as a topical treatment, and learn which of these healing herbs can also bring rich colors to the fabrics. You will leave the workshop with a naturally dyed raw silk scarf and plenty of knowledge to fuel your journey into the discovery of plant based color!

Bring your garment (or purchase one in shop) and dye it up in this evening workshop at the ever delightful vintage haven! We will have an indigo vat, madder root, and a few other dyes to give you the full spectrum of color.
